It’s hard to predict the future. Future Shock tried to predict the future in the seventies, but watching it now, it seems silly, and not very useful for predicting anything.
These two movies came out in 2006, and they seem to be coming true already.

Gas prices are up, and will only go higher. It seems to me that we are running out of gas.
An Inconvenient Truth

A couple of years ago, people did not think we were having a climate change. Now, that is all people are talking about.
Is it the end of the world as we know it? I doubt it. Do you want the world to end? I know I don’t. I don’t know how we will fix all of the problems in the world, but I do think that people are working on it.
How will it end? I don’t know. I’m not good at predictions either!

Tribute bands and the quest to be as good as the real thing
By Erica Febré efebre@hippopress.com
For the members of most tribute bands, the desire to be Van Halen, The Ramones or U2 started with a live performance.
Several band members remember being wowed by their idols and then saddened when those bands either stopped performing live or stopped performing in the area.
“When we started it, Van Halen wasn’t doing anything and there weren’t a lot of Van Halen tributes playing any Sammy Hagar material,” said Zander Carlson with Balance, a Van Halen tribute band. “I also wanted to build an Eddie Van Halen guitar and figured if I built the guitar then we had to play it too.”
“We didn’t start this to be the next Ramones. It was almost out of respect, like this is something that we should do to keep it alive for the people that love it just as much as we do,” said Bobby Ramoniac with The Ramoniacs, a Ramones tribute.
“Some of us here still remember The Ramones. It’s a place for the Ramones fans to get back together. But we’re also doing it for the people that missed what we were fortunate enough to see,” Bobby said.

School Suspends the Student Victim of a False Rumor
The Tennessee High School is sure on the ball here. A friend of student Michael Taylor was mad at him, so the friend started a rumor that Michael had a gun and was going to shoot one of his friends. The rumor started the day after Virginia Tech incident. Last week, Taylor overheard some students talking about some graffiti at the school that warned about a school attack. He joined the students, and told them he had not seen the graffiti.
When the school heard about the rumor about a school attack, did they close the school? Nope; having heard the earlier rumor about Michael, they suspended him from school. How does that make the school safer? Why not suspend the kid who started the first rumor, and try to find out who wrote the graffiti?
