Future Shock

Here is how I remember being taught about it school in the seventies:

From the beginning of time to 0 AD, the amount of information in the world doubled. It doubled again from 0 AD to 1900, from 1900 to 1950, from 1950 to 1970, and from 1970 to 1975.

By the way, it is hard to figure out who first said this, or how they figured it out.

Also in the seventies, I saw the movie “Future Shock.” The basic premise was that changes in society were happening too fast for people to keep up with.

The beginning of the movie starts out with a 70’s couple walking in the background, to 70’s SF music. As they get closer, the couple is both wearing a mask. Oh no! It must be a B science fiction movie. Well no, it’s supposed to be documentary. At least, that’s what I thought when I saw it in school back then.

Watching the movie now, it is kind of funny. Uh oh…so many changes to society! How will we keep up with everything? Well, the movie is a little over the top; most of society is getting by just fine.

And, if you have 43 minutes to kill, here is the movie!

This makes you wonder: how did we get through the seventies? Well, as you see in this movie, you could smoke anywhere.
